Setting limits is the key to moderation

Moderation in all things

We all know that to much of ANYTHING (yes even chocolate…) isn’t good for you. That’s why it is important to moderate things. The problem is, no one tells you HOW to moderate things.

Think of anything you moderate well. How do you do it? Chances are you have set limits to when and what you will do. These limits are like the guard rails that keep you from falling over the edge of a cliff. You comfortably know where the limit is so you wont fall and you also know you will be safe as long as you don’t cross that railing. Setting limits in other areas of your life can have the same impact.

Here are some examples of limits you can set

I will only look at social media on my computer to moderate how much I use technology.

I will only look at the first 3 posts on Facebook to moderate the time I spend on it.

I will eat 400 calories for breakfast so I don’t overeat later today.

QUICK ACTIVITY

Step 1 – Write down some things that you have a difficult time moderating. Or that you worry you will have a hard time moderating in the future.

Step 2 – Under each of these things write down limits you can put in place to keep you from “Falling off the edge.”

If you are having a hard time moderating social media I’ve written a post about helping with that!

If there is something you are having difficulty moderating. Setting limits will help!
